I try (very exhausting) to read /r/btc from time to time and today I stumbled on the creation of one of their latest lies. We already have their Blockstream/Core conspiracy theories, which we will probably never get rid of. Or for example the lies they spread that Segregated Witness isn’t a blocksize increase.
But the latest one I discovered today was extra nasty and the guy that was spreading it actually admitted he was just spreading FUD and sadly it seems to be working.
I am talking about the following post where he lets people believe an altcoin forked because of Segregated Witness: https://supload.com/BkRuZDJtg
Later a developer tries to correct him that the fork didn’t happen because of Segregated Witness: https://supload.com/By5nZD1Fx
First he is annoyed that the developer tries to correct him, but later he boldly admits he only had the intention to spread FUD and split the Bitcoin community. Luckily for the FUD spreader other replies already have enough up-votes so most people won’t notice the truth.
When you look at his post history his intentions become clear: https://supload.com/r1N0gP1Yx
The sad part is that the mods on /r/btc actually gave hist post the flair “bug” instead of letting people know it’s actually FUD.
How do we protect the Bitcoin community against these kind of people?
