I know I'm not alone in this. I 'got into' bitcoin in early 2013. Prior to that, I had never done any 'investing' other than dumping money into a 401k I ignored.

I also had really bad spending habits and frequently ran up a lot of credit card debt.

While my friends would keep calling me an idiot for 'investing' in bitcoin, I did it anyway. Every time I tried to listen to their 'expert' advice it just ended up costing me money.

I changed my spending habits and started paying down debt and putting extra money into bitcoin.

Fast forward to today and what bitcoin did was teach me how to save, better understand how markets work, and become a real investor. I now manage a significant portfolio with stocks and ETFs in addition to my bitcoin.

In particular I really learned how markets behave with a completely speculative asset. It turns out that bitcoin isn't the only market that it completely built on hype and speculation. I took the lessons I learned from bitcoin and traded other speculative assets like Tesla stock to great returns.

Had I not 'got into bitcoin' I would probably still be just dumping an inconsequential amount of money into my previously poorly managed 401k and still be wracking up credit cards.

I see many young people on this forum who have clearly learned similar lessons.
