It would be nice to keep the blk.dat files small *as long as we can**. The eventual solution will be to not care how big it gets. But for now, while it's still small, it's nice to keep it small so new users can get going faster. When I eventually implement client-only mode, that won't matter much anymore.
Or do you think, activating SegWit means no on-chain limit increase in the future? But as far as I know, even Roger Ver & BU admitted SegWit is good.? I don't disagree with on-chain limit increase, but I think we shall activate SegWit first.
Thus, SegWit: lower fee + less burden to run nodes. BU: lower fee + higher burden to run nodes.
So the question now is only that if SegWit is really technically good?
In this question, you trust the core devs & other famous devs & andreas antonopoulos, or bitmain&BU&Roger Ver?
So 1mb + Segwit is my favor now, and when transaction volumes increase to higher level, and if we don't have other ways then, we shall increase the on-chain block limit.
So, on-chain limit change contradicts to "as long as we can", when we still have the method of SegWit.
