- I Just want to post this here as well in order to protect as many people as possible as being as stupid as I was*
Hello everybody,
I made a horrible mistake today. As I finally got my mother to invest in bitcoin (fucked up right), I was about to put her money in my poloniex account. When I wanted to invest, I had a weird feeling my bitcoin address had changed. I refreshed the site and logged in again just to be sure.
As I logged in again, the bitcoinaddress was still the same as last time. I just thought that maybe something minor changed. An update or whatever. Everything looked normal anyway.
I transacted the money to my bitcoin address, waiting for it to arrive. But unfortunately it didn't.
Checking out my internet history, I found out I unfortunately ended up at www.polcriex.com instead of www.poloniex.com. I know it's stupid and all, but I just failed to check the url.
Polcriex.com turns out to be a scam site. It lets you log in and everything looks just like poloniex. Even the fake 2FA step was included, aswell as my wallet with all belongings. It looked entirely fine, apart from the slightly deviating url..
Anyway, I lost a lot of money today. And I'm aware of the fact there is no way of getting it back, unfortunately. I just want to warn my fellow cryptocurrency people to watch out for this and ALWAYS CHECK YOUR URL.
Because I dont know how I ended up there, but I did. And I genuinely hope this will not happen to many more people.
Kind regards
